Why last-minute is harder on some days than others
Availability in Sydney is not evenly spread, and knowing the pattern helps you.
- The last three days of any month are the hardest in the industry. Lease turnover concentrates every move into the same window.
- Saturdays book out first, typically two to three weeks ahead.
- Tuesday to Thursday is where short-notice capacity actually lives. If you have any flexibility at all, this is where to aim.
- Late February and early July tighten across the Eastern Suburbs because of the UNSW and hospital intakes.
Does a last-minute move cost more?
Not with us. The rate is the same rate — $149 an hour on weekdays, $159 on weekends, published on this page and on our pricing page. There is no urgency surcharge and no premium for calling on a Wednesday about a Friday.
What does change the cost is preparation, and that is where short notice genuinely hurts. An unpacked home takes roughly twice as long to load as a packed one. If you have 48 hours, spending the first 24 boxing the kitchen and the wardrobes will save you more than any discount you could negotiate.

What to do in the 24 hours before an emergency move
In priority order, because you will not get through all of it:
- Kitchen first. It is the slowest room in every house and the one most likely to break. Plates on edge, not stacked flat.
- Wardrobes second. Leave clothes on hangers and bundle them — do not fold everything into boxes, it takes three times as long and you unpack it twice.
- Empty every drawer. Loaded furniture is heavier, more dangerous and slower to carry.
- Clear the path. Hallways, stairs and the front entry. Crew time spent stepping around obstacles is time you pay for.
- Defrost the fridge the night before, even if the timing is awkward. A wet fridge in a truck is a problem for everything near it.
- Pack a first-night bag and keep it with you: bedding, chargers, medication, kettle, toilet paper, a screwdriver.
When we will tell you no
We would rather turn a job down than take a deposit for something we cannot do properly. If it is a four-bedroom house tomorrow morning, or a building with a lift booking that needs five days’ notice, the answer is a straight no and a suggestion of what would work instead. A crew that arrives and cannot finish is worse for you than a crew that never came.

Often yes for a studio, a one-bedroom unit or a part-load, particularly midweek. Call rather than emailing — for anything inside 48 hours we can tell you in two minutes whether a crew is free, where a form takes half a day to come back to you.
Do last-minute removalists charge more?
We don’t. The rate is $149 per hour on weekdays and $159 on weekends whether you book six weeks out or tomorrow, with the same two-hour minimum and the same $50 booking fee. What actually raises the cost of a rushed move is being unpacked, because an unpacked home takes about twice as long to load.
What are the hardest days to book?
The last three days of any month, because that is when leases turn over across all of Sydney. Saturdays go two to three weeks ahead. Tuesday to Thursday is where short-notice capacity genuinely exists — if you have any flexibility, aim there.
I have 24 hours. What should I pack first?
The kitchen, then the wardrobes. The kitchen is the slowest room in any house and the most breakable; wardrobes are fastest handled by leaving clothes on hangers and bundling them rather than folding into boxes. After that, empty every drawer and clear the hallway and stairs.
Can you do a last-minute interstate move?
Sometimes, and it can be unusually cheap when a truck has unexpected backload space heading your way. It depends entirely on what is running that week. Call with your date range and destination and we will tell you honestly whether there is space rather than holding you on a maybe.
