Moving in Coogee?

Coogee is a beach suburb built on a hill, and that combination is why removalists Coogee residents hire twice are the ones who ask about the stairs before quoting. Half the blocks here are walk-ups. The other half have parking you cannot get a truck into after nine on a weekend.

Why is a Coogee move harder than it looks?
The suburb slopes from Randwick down to the beach, and almost everything about a move here follows from that slope.
- Walk-ups. The 1960s and 70s blocks that fill the streets above the beach mostly have no lift. Two or three flights is normal, and it changes how many people we send.
- Steep, narrow streets. Several of the streets running down to the water cannot take a 10-tonne truck. We size the truck to the street.
- Beach parking. From mid-morning on a warm weekend, kerbside space near Coogee Bay Road is gone. An early start is worth more than any discount.
- Permits. Randwick City Council issues removalist parking permits and generally needs a few business days. Without a driveway, plan for one.
Stairs, slopes and the Coogee Bay Road problem
The biggest variable in a Coogee move is the carry — the distance and the height between your door and where the truck can legally sit.
A ground-floor flat with off-street parking loads fast. A third-floor walk-up two hundred metres up the hill does not, and quoting both at the same crew size is how a three-hour job becomes six. When you tell us the floor, the stairs and the parking, we send the crew that finishes it.
Coogee Bay Road is its own consideration. It is the spine of the suburb and it is slow whenever the beach is busy. Booking an early slot solves most of it.
Coogee, South Coogee and Clovelly
Coogee proper is apartments, mostly walk-ups, with the tightest parking. South Coogee has more houses and semis, wider streets, easier truck access, but steeper driveways. Clovelly, next door, is a mix of both and its streets narrow quickly as you approach the beach.
We match the truck to the street. A big truck that cannot get near your door is worse than a smaller one that can.
