Two things: the buildings are older and the contents are heavier.
- Three-level terraces. A lot of Woollahra housing stock runs over three floors with a narrow staircase that turns twice. That is a crew-size decision, not a truck-size one.
- Narrow, heritage streets. Several of the streets around Queen Street cannot take a 10-tonne truck, and the ones that can often have no space to stop.
- No driveways. Most terraces open onto the footpath. Woollahra Municipal Council issues removalist parking permits and applications take lead time.
- Higher-value contents. Antique furniture, art, pianos and full-height bookcases are common here. They need blankets, straps and a slower pace, not more people moving faster.
Terraces, semis and the Queen Street end
The biggest cost driver in a Woollahra move is the carry: the distance and the number of stairs between your door and where the truck can legally park.
