Rose Bay is two suburbs stacked on top of each other. Down at the water there are large apartment blocks with service lifts, building managers and by-laws. Up the hill towards Old South Head Road there are houses on slopes with driveways that a loaded truck has to think about. The removalists Rose Bay residents rehire are the ones who know which of the two they are quoting before they say a number.

We are based on Bondi Road, minutes over the ridge. On an hourly job the drive is your money.

What decides how long a Rose Bay move takes?

Access, and the two halves of the suburb have completely different access problems.

The waterfront blocks and the hill behind them

The single biggest variable in a Rose Bay move is not the amount of furniture. It is how far the truck sits from the door and what comes between them.

Down by the water, the job is a coordination problem. A booked goods lift and a loading area make it one of the faster moves we do. The same flat with an unbooked lift, or a building that only releases it for two hours, becomes a very different day — and that has nothing to do with how fast the crew works.

Up the hill, the job is a physical problem. Steps up from the street, split-level entries and driveways too steep or too narrow for the biggest truck. We match the truck to the approach rather than to the price list, because a 10-tonne parked at the bottom of a hill costs you more in carry time than the 6.5-tonne would have cost in a second trip.

Larger apartments, and what that changes

Rose Bay has a lot of three-bedroom apartments — genuinely large flats with the contents of a house and the access of a unit. That combination is where hourly quotes usually go wrong.

The volume needs the bigger truck. The building needs the lift booked. The furniture often needs disassembly because a three-seater that came in through a balcony ten years ago will not go back out through a lift door. We plan for all three before the day rather than discovering them on it, and disassembly and reassembly are included in the hourly rate.

The waterfront blocks are strict about lift bookings. Our guide to moving out of an apartment covers what to arrange and when.

What we move most in Rose Bay

Beds, tables and flat-pack wardrobes come apart and go back together as part of the hourly rate, and we bring the tools. Wall-mounted TVs with in-wall cabling and plumbed-in appliances need a licensed trade — the one exception, flagged before the day rather than on it.

How much removalists cost in Rose Bay

Package Weekday Weekend Best for
2 removalists + 4.5t truck (20–22m³) $149/hr $159/hr 1–2 bedrooms
2 removalists + 6.5t truck (30m³) $169/hr $179/hr 2–3 bedrooms
3 removalists + 10t truck (45m³) $229/hr $239/hr 3–4 bedrooms

Two-hour minimum. Every package includes protective blankets, removalist ropes, trolleys and dollies, shrink wrap and power tools. Weekend rates are $10 per hour above weekday rates on every package.

A one-bedroom apartment with a booked lift typically runs two to three hours. A three-bedroom apartment runs four to six with the larger crew. A house on the hill with steps up from the street sits at the upper end, because the carry is the job.

Two things that are not on your invoice: no fuel levy and no stair fee. Travel time is charged at a 45-minute minimum, or the actual travel time if it runs longer — never both — at your package’s hourly rate, on top of the two-hour minimum. Your tracking link shows the minute the crew left our Bondi depot, so you can check it against the invoice. Time is rounded to the nearest 15 minutes, not rounded up to the hour.

A $50 booking fee confirms your date. It is non-refundable on cancellation or no-show, and reschedules are accepted on 48 hours’ notice. Full pricing is published here.

Track the truck — and check the invoice against the clock

Every job runs on our own live tracking system. You get a link showing when the crew leaves, when they arrive, when loading starts and finishes, and the running time as it happens. No calling the office to ask where the truck is.

Here is the part that matters more than the tracking itself: your invoice is generated from the times in that link. Rounded to the nearest 15 minutes, not rounded up to the hour. Every job also ends with a walkthrough and a signed completion form before we charge anything.

In a Rose Bay building with a two-hour lift window, that record works in your favour twice. You can see how long the move actually took, and you can see how much of the window went on waiting for the building to release the lift. If you need to raise that with your strata manager afterwards, you are doing it with timestamps rather than impressions.

Insured, rated and strata-ready: removalists Rose Bay buildings accept

When a removalist tells you they are “fully insured”, ask which cover they mean. Public liability covers damage to the building. Transit and cargo insurance cover your furniture on the truck. They are different policies and only one of them is about your things. It is a fair question and a good operator will not mind answering it.

Rose Bay removalists FAQ

How much do removalists cost in Rose Bay?

Rates start at $149 per hour on weekdays and $159 on weekends for two removalists and a 4.5-tonne truck, including GST, with a two-hour minimum. A one-bedroom apartment with a booked lift typically runs two to three hours; a three-bedroom apartment runs four to six with the larger crew.

Who books the service lift?

Your building manager does, and most strata will only accept the request from a resident. We tell you exactly what to ask for and when so the request goes in once and correctly.

Do you provide a certificate of currency for strata?

Yes. We carry $20 million public liability insurance and send the certificate the same day you ask.

Can your truck handle a steep driveway up the hill?

Sometimes, not always. Tell us the address and we will bring the truck that can do it safely rather than the biggest one available. A truck stuck at the bottom of a driveway helps nobody.

Do I need a parking permit in Rose Bay?

If the building has a loading area or the house has a driveway, usually not. Otherwise yes — Woollahra Municipal Council issues removalist permits and generally needs a few business days.

Will my three-seater fit in the lift?

Often not, and that is worth knowing before the day. Disassembly is included in the hourly rate, and where a piece genuinely cannot be taken apart we plan the stair route instead.

Can you quote from photos?

Yes. Send photos of the rooms on WhatsApp with your building name or street and we will give you the truck, the crew and the likely hours before you commit.

How far in advance should I book?

A week for weekday moves. Two to three weeks for Saturdays and the end of the month, and longer if your building only releases the lift in specific windows.
