Apartment moves are decided by the building, not the furniture. Lift bookings, loading docks, certificates of insurance and time windows — get those wrong and a three-hour job becomes six. Here’s what to sort before moving day.

The building checklist for a Sydney apartment move

  1. Book the service lift at both buildings. Most require 48 hours’ notice and assign a fixed time slot.
  2. Book the loading dock if there is one, and ask for the height clearance in metres.
  3. Request the certificate of currency requirement. Ask what cover amount they need — we hold $20 million and send it directly to your building manager.
  4. Check the allowed hours. Many buildings only permit moves 9am–4pm on weekdays, some ban weekends entirely.
  5. Ask about a bond. Some strata schemes hold a refundable bond against lift or corridor damage.
  6. Confirm lift padding — building management usually installs it, not the removalist.

Truck size and dock clearance for apartment removals

This catches people out constantly. Our truck heights:

Truck Height Length Capacity
4.5 tonne 3–3.4m 6m 20–22m³
6.5 tonne 3.4m 7m 30m³
10 tonne 4m 9m 45m³

Many Sydney apartment docks cap at 3.5 metres, which rules out the 10-tonne. Get the clearance number from your building manager before you book, and we’ll match the truck.

How much apartment removalists cost in Sydney

Package Weekday Weekend Best for
2 removalists + 4.5t truck (20–22m³) $149/hr $159/hr 1–2 bedrooms
2 removalists + 6.5t truck (30m³) $169/hr $179/hr 2–3 bedrooms
3 removalists + 10t truck (45m³) $229/hr $239/hr 3–4 bedrooms

Every package includes protective blankets, removalist ropes, trolleys and dollies, shrink wrap and power tools. Two-hour minimum. A $50 booking fee confirms your date — non-refundable on cancellation or no-show, with reschedules accepted on 48 hours’ notice. Packing materials available at additional cost.

How long an apartment removal takes in Sydney

Apartment With lift Walk-up (2–3 floors)
Studio 2 hrs 2–3 hrs
1 bedroom 2–3 hrs 3–4 hrs
2 bedroom 3–5 hrs 5–7 hrs
3 bedroom 5–7 hrs 7–9 hrs

Notice the difference stairs make. That’s why we recommend an extra removalist for walk-ups — three people for six hours usually costs less than two people for nine.

Common apartment removal problems we plan for

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to book the lift for my move?

Almost always, and usually 48 hours ahead. Your building manager or strata handles the booking, not the removalist.

What if my building has a height limit on the loading dock?

Tell us the clearance in metres and we’ll bring a truck that fits. Our 4.5-tonne is 3 to 3.4 metres, which clears most docks.

Do you provide a certificate of currency for my building?

Yes. Send us the building manager’s email and we forward our $20 million public liability certificate before the day.

How much does it cost to move a 2 bedroom apartment in Sydney?

Typically $450 to $850 on a weekday with lift access, based on 3 to 5 hours at $149 to $169 per hour incl. GST.

Do you charge extra for stairs?

No stair fee. Stairs affect the hours, so we recommend the right crew size upfront instead of adding charges afterwards.
