What makes a Randwick move different from any other?
Randwick is denser than it looks from Alison Road. Most of what we move here sits in walk-up blocks built between the 1960s and 1980s, and those blocks have three things in common: no lift, a shared staircase, and street parking that is already full by 8am.
- Walk-ups without lifts. Common through Randwick Junction and the streets off Belmore Road. Three flights changes the crew size, and we would rather quote that honestly than discover it.
- Parking. Randwick City Council issues removalist permits, and applications take a few business days. Without a driveway you will almost certainly need one.
- Hospital and university timing. Prince of Wales and UNSW sit on the edge of the suburb, and the end-of-semester weeks are the busiest moving weeks of the year here. Book early or move midweek.
- Race days. Royal Randwick brings traffic and street closures. We check the calendar before confirming a Saturday.
Walk-ups, semis and the streets behind Alison Road
The single biggest variable in a Randwick move is not the furniture. It is the stairs.
A ground-floor unit with a driveway loads fast. A second-floor walk-up with a narrow turn at the landing does not, and a wardrobe that will not go round that turn has to come apart. We bring the tools for that and it is included in the rate.
Terraces and semis on the older streets often cannot take a 10-tonne truck. We match the truck to the street rather than to the price list — a big truck parked two blocks away costs you more in carry time than the smaller truck would have cost in capacity.
Randwick Junction, Coogee Bay Road and the university side
Randwick Junction is the dense part: units, shops below, tight kerbside parking, and the light rail running through. The Coogee Bay Road end slopes towards the beach and the streets narrow.
The Kensington and UNSW side is student-heavy, which means a lot of single-room and share-house moves rather than full households.
